Hug
A moment to unwind in the city.
Near Kitasando Station, this approachable bar features a copper counter reminiscent of a distillery, pours of Ichiro's Malt, wines selected by a sommelier, and a free bring-your-own-food policy.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just a short walk from Kitasando Station along Meiji-dori, Hug catches the eye with its dull-sheened copper counter, inspired by the equipment of a whisky distillery. The counter-led layout lacks the stiffness of an authentic cocktail lounge, creating a relaxed setting where dropping in solo feels completely natural.
The bar's liquid centerpiece is Ichiro's Malt, consistently kept in stock across bottlings such as White Label and Leaf Label, all readily ordered by the shot for easy side-by-side sipping. Bottle-keep service is available, alongside single pours of domestic staples like Yamazaki 12 Year Old, Hakushu 12 Year Old, and Hibiki. Beyond spirits, the owner-sommelier curates a daily wine pour, sparkling wine by the glass, and beer, making Hug just as useful for a quiet drink before or after a meal.
For nibbles, Hug serves small counter chocolates, mixed nuts, and a duo of cheeses spanning white-rind and blue styles. Guests also have the option to bring in their own food free of charge, allowing you to pair favorite deli bites or light snacks directly with the pour of your choice.
